BYU Ballroom Dance Company Performs for Brussels

Ambassadors, representatives of the European Union and religious leaders were in attendance

Brigham Young University (BYU)’s internationally acclaimed Ballroom Dance Company performed a spectacular show for a full house at the Wolubilis Theater in Brussels on Wednesday, 25 April 2022. Special guests included Elder Massimo De Feo, General Authority Seventy and President of the Europe Central Area of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, ambassadors, representatives of the European Commission, and other civic and religious leaders.

The event was endorsed by the Fulbright Commission for Educational Exchange between the United States, Belgium, and Luxembourg, and hosted by the European Union & International Affairs Office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in partnership with Brigham Young University.

The return of the dance company was highly anticipated following the pandemic, with many special guests expressing their excitement to witness the talent of the dancers once more. As the first stop on their European tour, the company's performance, “COME ALIVE,” set the standard high for the shows that will follow across France and Germany. Encouraged as a family event, the show offered attendees a breathtaking experience displaying compelling and creative choreography from romantic waltzes to rhythmical sambas.

Preceding the performance, a reception was held for EU officials, diplomats, and other special guests. Francesco Di Lillo, Director of the Church’s office in Brussels welcomed guests, followed by opening remarks by Elder De Feo.

Elder De Feo said, ‘On behalf of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I thank you for joining us tonight as we celebrate both our unity and diversity through dance. It is, after all, in uncertain and worrying times such as these that we need its bright optimism most in our lives. Brigham Young University’s Ballroom Dance tour could not be more timely!’

Brigham Young University will return in Brussels on 15 July with “Within Dreams,” a much anticipated show performed by the Contemporary Dance Theatre.  The public can already register on the dedicated waiting list.

The European Union & International Affairs Office of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Brussels works with and fosters dialogue among EU stakeholders, embassies and civil society to engage in freedom of religion or belief, humanitarian assistance, volunteerism and youth.
